For the third time, on the 3rd of September 2024, Feast of St Phoebe, Deacon of the Church of Cenchreae, the Australian Catholics Exploring the Diaconate group led a webinar, supported by Catholic Religious Australia.
Geraldine Doogue AO and Gail Gill helped us to examine the theme: ‘Where are St Phoebe’s successors today?’ through prayer, talks and discussions. After our initial prayer reflection from members of our group, Dr Sandie Cornish and Fr Frank Brennan AO SJ presented on ‘Synodality and Access for Women to the Diaconate’. This was followed by three testimonies. From Deacon Adrian Gomez: ‘How did ordination change your ministry?’ Then Joanna Thyer and Sr Elizabeth Young rsm spoke on ‘How would ordination change your ministry?’ The time was concluded with some rich conversation among all the speakers and audience members.
