A Good News Story – Ministry Beginnings

Sonia Gomez, 30 January 2025

For the first blog of 2025, we would like to share some good news from one of our members, Sonia Elizabeth Gomez Lopez, who is taking on a new ministry role. This article appeared in the parish bulletin of St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Mortlake NSW.

Welcome Sonia Gomez
Parish Pastoral Associate

We welcome Sonia Gomez who will commence as a Pastoral Associate in the parish on Tuesday, 21 January in a full-time role for a period of 2 years. Sonia is a full-time Lieutenant in the Australian Army, studying to be a Catholic Army Chaplain. She is being sponsored by the Army to undertake ministry formation and to gain pastoral experience in a parish.

As part of that formation, Sonia will now be placed at St Pat’s, Mortlake, where she will assist in various roles and tasks in the parish relating to outreach and Ministry, both in parish liturgical, pastoral and Sacramental programmes and community engagement. In addition to this, Sonia will be undertaking further components of study and personal training and development through the Army and the Archdiocese.

Please join me in welcoming Sonia to the parish for what I know will be a rewarding and enriching experience for both the parish and Sonia. Fr Tom

Congratulations and all the very best for your placement, Sonia! What a wonderful step forward for women in authorised ministries.
